PlayCoffeeCommunity

A Scandinavian play café for the under-sixes — and for the people carrying them. Sorauren/Roncy, opening 1H 2027.

Parents of small kids in Toronto have no place to go. So we built one.

Smål is a third space for families with young children — the kind that has worked in Copenhagen and Stockholm for years, and that Toronto somehow still doesn't have.

Open play built for six and under, grounded in a Nordic open-play ethos. A real café attached to it. No drop-off — you stay, you sit down, you talk to another adult.

What's inside

Sorauren / Roncy · 2,000–3,000 sq ft

An open play room with a plywood climbing structure and a café counter
01

Open play, six and under

One open-concept room, Nordic mixed play and meet space. Built for the age where everything goes in the mouth and nothing stays where you put it.

Drop in for an hour, or book a class

An iced matcha and an iced latte on a café table
02

A real café

Iced latte, matcha, filter. Four dollars flat, tax and tip included. Not a vending machine in the corner of a soft-play warehouse — an actual café you'd walk to anyway.

$4 · every drink · always

03

An ECE on the floor

An early childhood educator in the room for educational co-play. Not childcare — a person who knows what they're doing, playing alongside you and your kid.

No drop-off. Parents stay and hang.

04

No stairs, and somewhere to put the stroller

Step-free entry and stroller parking with locks. If you've ever tried to get a bucket seat and a toddler down a half-flight, you already understand why this is on the list.

Open tables for co-working, too

05

A window for everyone else

A takeout window serving the street, whether or not you have a kid in tow. Most classes run before we open and after we close, so the floor stays free during the day.

Pricing you can do in your head

Café$4flat, per beverageMatcha, coffee, filter and more. Tax included. Tipping not permitted.
Walk-inTBDper kid · still arguing about itSiblings the same price, two adults free, tax and tip included. The number is the one thing we haven't settled. Flat, and not precious about it.
Membership$250a month · strictly cappedAll adults plus one kid, +$50 per sibling. One free drink a day. Pause for one month a year.

Pricing here is illustrative — the shape is right, the exact numbers land closer to opening. Two things won't move: tax and tip built into every price we publish, and no hidden add-ons. What you see is what you pay.

Membership includes people, not just space

It takes a village, and the village has to actually know each other. Membership is strictly capped — small enough that faces feel familiar and kids make real friends rather than passing acquaintances.

WeeklyFriday DiscoEvery week, for the kids. Loud, brief, non-negotiable.

Ten years in Scandinavia, then home to Toronto

Founders · parents of two

We spent the last ten years in Sweden and Denmark. Both our kids were born there, and both of them grew up in rooms like the one we're building — where a play café is just ordinary infrastructure, the place you go on a wet Tuesday because the flat is small and the day is long.

Nobody there thinks of it as a concept. It's simply where parents are. You turn up, the kids disappear into the play area, you get a coffee and thirty minutes of adult conversation, and everyone goes home in a better mood than they arrived.

Then we moved home to Toronto with two small kids and found there was nowhere to go. So we're making one.

Not an outing. Not a booking. The place you end up on the walk back from the park.

The waitlist hears first — about founding memberships, the opening date, and everything in between. We write rarely and never sell your details.

Three fields, one email, no newsletter you have to escape from.

You're on the list.

We'll write when founding memberships open — and not before. See you at Sorauren.
